Meet the Artist!

Hello there and thank you for taking the time to check out my brand new website! I'd like to tell you a little bit about myself and my passions so that you can get to know me a little better, and maybe even relate to my artwork.

Since I was a child I absolutely loved watching art shows like Art Attack, SMART, and more recently the Bob Ross painting shows on Netflix. Growing up I would create physical things such as trophies made out of paper mache, castles from loo roll, and so much sketching. My poor mum has a box or two somewhere in the attic with all the drawings and paintings I did when I was little. I had a lot of encouragement from her to grow as an artist, and I'm forever thankful for that.

I studied Art at GCSE and graduated high school with a B in the subject. I used to love working with as many mediums as possible, which ended up working in my favour when I went to college at 17 to study A level Photography. I thoroughly enjoyed this side of art, and still use the skills I learned on the course to this day.

I first started watercolour in 2015 and as a self taught artist it took me a long time to get to grips with a traditional medium. I worked hard, learned from YouTube, and developed my own style over the years of working with it. In recent months I've come to love acrylic paint as well, and started creating detailed and realistic portraits of animals. If you take a look through my Instagram account I'm sure you'll see some of the lovely animals I've had the pleasure of painting. And it all started with wanting to practice drawing cats!

As a keen animal lover I used to rescue stray and feral cats in Stoke-on-Trent when I used to live there. Over the years I worked closely with Cats Protection to secure forever homes for some lovely cats, and even had the opportunity to rescue and rehabilitate an incredible ginger cat called John. It was John that made me want to paint as he had such an expressive face, and incredibly vibrant fur. I eventually sold my first acrylic painting to the very lady that helped me rehabilitate John AND find him a forever home!

Since working with animals is a huge part of my life, I wanted to focus on nature in my artwork. From my online portfolio I'm sure you can see how I skip and hop and try different mediums and styles. That's what I love about art! I can be messy, I can try new things, I can explore new mediums, and I love what I produce.

I set up this website so I could showcase what I create, but also to give my friends and family the opportunity to purchase prints, originals, and stickers I have made. And from a lovely presence online I've had some requests for commissions! I absolutely would love to take on commissions, and therefore will be opening my commissions to the lovely public. Do you have a pet you would like for me to immortalise in acrylic or watercolour? If that's a yes, please don't hesitate to send me a message on my commissions page, I would love to chat and create something unique and special just for you.

If you're still reading then I thank you for your patience, I'm so happy to finally start my small business selling my artwork, and I hope you enjoy the creations I display.

Much love,

Em
